The Baldacchino Angels
The four baldacchino angels sit atop the four corner of the canopy. Modelerd on that of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, the baldacchino and its angels are life size sculptures bearing the gifts of wheat and grapes. They further bear a gold and white patina as they are not to be seen as our same flesh here. All four figures face outward in offering the gifts outward at the base of the Crucifix suspended above. Their placement also harkens to the angels of the Covenant Ark whereby the wings pointing inward form the Theopedia, the Footstool of God
The baldacchino was designed by architect Duncan Stroik.
